New funding flows: Innovative finance for education after Covid-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating effects on health and economic systems, and the knock-on effects on education systems will be felt for years, if not for a whole generation, unless radically addressed. With this in mind, JET Education Services (JET) conducted a researchers’ bootcamp (#OpenupYourThinking) with the purpose of finding real-time solutions to the pressures being placed on education systems by COVID-19, particularly in South Africa, using an evidence-based approach. This coordinated approach across 12 themes allowed for innovative, fit-for-purpose and agile research models and strategies to be formulated, while providing JET and other organisations with a platform to contribute real-time inputs towards other national education processes. Theme 12 focused on innovative finance for education during and after COVID-19 and was supported in part by the Tutuwa Foundation. The resulting report was authored by Susan de Witt and Tatenda Nyamuda, A summary version has been prepared for broader circulation.
